In 2007, RIM commissioned Australian composer Stewart Copeland,
former drummer for The Police, to come up with official theme music for its proposed smartphone,
the BlackBerry Bold.
Copeland expanded his five-note melody into a percussive minute-long theme track named "Bold."
He then added a softer version with an fade-in for use as an alarm tone, and produced six variations as ring tones.
BTW, Copeland is an Apple fan who does all his composing on Macs.
